Pennsylvania State Agencies Commend Nine Businesses for Employment Efforts

State agencies recently recognized nine Pennsylvania-based training providers and employers for outstanding workforce-development and hiring success. More specifically, these nine unique organizations were awarded with Governor’s Achievement Awards at the twenty-seventh annual Pennsylvania Partners Employment, Training & Education Conference held in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The annual conference, itself, attracts over eight hundred public and private Pennsylvania-based job training professionals.

Julia Hearthway, the Acting Secretary for Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry stated, "I commend these businesses for partnering with our workforce-development system to look beyond what some people see as employment barriers to hire and train workers who can help them succeed in today's economy.”

Hearthway was represented at the awards ceremony by Daniel Kuba, the Acting Director of Labor & Industry's Bureau of Workforce Development Partnership. Further, the Pennsylvania Education Secretary, Ron Tomalis, praised the Education Workforce Leadership Award winners' partnership:

"The Erie County Technical School offers real-world training in a variety of disciplines that help students obtain satisfying and valuable job placement after high school," stated Tomalis. "The working relationship between the Erie County Technical School and Scott Enterprises, a key player in the area's hotel and restaurant industry, is a great example of how partnerships can help meet the workforce demands of the region, and deserves to be applauded this way. Congratulations to ECTS and Scott Enterprises."

The Aging, Labor and Industry, Education and Public Welfare Departments - as well as Pennsylvania Partners – sponsored these awards in an effort to draw attention to exceptional training providers and employers who engage in excellent workforce-development and hiring practices. Pennsylvania Partners, itself, is a workforce development professional association that is present in all of Pennsylvania’s twenty-three employee workforce invest areas.

"When we work with employers to train Pennsylvanians for gainful work opportunities, everyone benefits," the Acting Public Welfare Secretary Gary Alexander stated, "We all reap the rewards of a more robust and competitive workforce, a reduced dependence on government assistance, and fewer costs for taxpayers."

All in all, the job outlook for the state of Pennsylvania looks encouraging - thanks to these training centers and employers.
